SD Send Fans Home Happy; Beat JCA Management in Front of Packed House

I hope each and every one of you enjoyed your weekend. Friday's victory might have been the most complete game SD has put together in quite some time. Everything clicked. And with this win, the Dreams also Shattered their attendance record. Last Friday's game drew 7 women, 1 baby girl, 2 puppies and a bit more.... Wow!

 

We ran off Thomas Jefferson #2 nearly 2 weeks ago, full of energy and excitement. A renewed spirit engulfed this team and it felt like possibly the start of a new season. We stole a 15-14 hard earned victory and avoided what might have been a loss that would sap our spirit and ruin our playoff hopes. From the grips of a disappointing season we wrestled a walk-off win. But with a long layover before the next game, what would follow???

 

Clutch Hitting! We scored 9 legitimate runs against a team that did not make errors. We jumped to a lead in the first, tacked on some more in the second and then put up the needed insurance in the sixth w/some unexpected pop, before the opposition could break even. Timely hitting against a good team (and one of the most empassioned chest bumps from BP that i've ever seen!)

 

Mike - On the ride back to Bronxville, you may have gazed at Alana and thought of the Duff to be, but I hope you relished "your baby" of Friday night - a clutch 2 out hit in the first inning, that would set the tone and give us a 2-0 lead.

 

Defense - Great performance from all 10 out on the field. We played a near flawless game. Any errors we made were contained. Cutoffs were hit. Catches were made.Fundamentals were sound. Marc subbed in and played a very solid LCF - never letting a ball (that stayed in the actual park) get over his head. Our 10th man du jour, Eric, filled in nicely at 1B. Awesome to be a part of and fun to watch.

 

Jeff I - as you headed east on the LIE and spent a nice weekend in the 'burbs - I hope you thought fondly of Friday night's victory and your steady 3-3, 2 RBI performance. Before you pick up that hedge trimmer or BBQ brush, think twice. We need you to rest that arm and be ready for the stretch run. Home improvements can wait - a championship cannot!

 

Pitching - 4 runs against a team that could hit. A pesky leadoff hitter and potentially the hardest swinging 2-3-4 we've ever faced. On the season, we are giving up only a shade over 7 runs per game. Stingy...

 

I hope every one of you enjoyed your weekend. I hope you all have watched the Celtics at the Garden and thought about the emotional lift SD's unofficial Fan Appreciation night brought this team. I ask you - in front of the Boston faithful, does Paul Pierce step up any more than Brian Perles does in front of the crowds of Carnegie Hill? Questions would arise whether Tracy was the Jessica Simpson to Brian's Tony Romo. BP's 2-3, 2 runs scored and pitching gem suggest differently. BP had the PBR Turning Point of the Game with a huge strikeout of JCA's #2 slugger in a cat and mouse at-bat in the 5th. He has also won his last two w/Mrs. Perles in the crowd.

 

Focus - Despite a 9 day layoff between games, this team stayed sharp and poised. We knew this was going to be a fight and didn't let down or lose our cool. Even with added pressure of an SRO crowd, we rose to the occassion and were determined to grind this one out. We were patient at the plate - grinding out 5 walks (2 by me, 2 by JD and one by Jerry); four of which came in the first 2 innings and turned into runs. Only once did we have a 1-2-3 inning at the plate

 

Jerry and Robbie....I hope you too enjoyed every minute of this weekend. Moving positions and sliding throughout the batting order isn't for everyone, but you both did it w/ease. Rob - I hope you took a moment away from the Gymboree classes to think about this little streak that SD has put together. After starting at 0-2 we have won 5 of 6 and sit in the thick of the playoff hunt. Jerry - w/Sandra in the stands the level of trash talking & soundtrack of your game may have gone from Kid Rock to Josh Groban but that didn't dampen your energy. Congratulations! (and let's definitely change the name on that jersey now :)

 

Passion - Seltzer on one leg limping down the line a la Kirk Gibson. If you hear Paige crying at night, those are tears of joy, for she's seen Shattered Dreams and has witnessed with her own eyes the rush of adrenaline and pride that flows when 10 over-the-hill dudes put on their outdated navy blue unis. You can put sleeves on or not, but it's the patch on the front that matters!

 

Jeff D - I hope you basked in the sun (w/SPF 40) and in the glory of this weekend's victory. You have led this team with heart and have outwitted the best of Yorkville's skippers. JCA should hire you as a consultant! Jeff even pulled out some Pat Riley-esque motivational techniques to prime me for my last at bat! Great fire from our Tommy Lasorda.

 

Collins and Rohin - You were missed but i hope you were greeted Friday evening with a welcomed phone call or text message informing you of the drama that ensued at 111th.

 

I hope you all found some shade to relax in this weekend and some respite from the oppressive humidity. While you sipped a cool drink of iced tea or took a nap under a tree, I hope you kept a few moments to relish the victory from Friday evening. But even as you tried to escape the scorching heat this weekend, I rest assured that each and every one of you has kept his bat hot and his fire for a championship burning. There is no cooling this team down now.

 

As the mercury rises, so do the Dreams.
