buenos dias, buenos tardes, buenos noches

Dreams put up veinte y dos and discard Angels easly, in 3rd mercy rule victory this season

Hola hombres de Shattered Dreams!
No matter what language you say it in - the score 22-3 is universal for "old fashion ass whooping!"

I actually started writing this email yesterday. No - it's not because i just started work and am still in the "honeymoon" period which affords me the time to revel in the exploits of ShatteredDreams and read TMZ & Sportsline all day. It is not because of that. Well, maybe a little, but it is mostly because I was absolutely brimming with confidence and knew that we would take these guys down like a Brother Jimmy's fishbowl (circa 2004 of course).

All 10 Dreams started last night, for only the 3rd time this season and the chemistry that has held this team together over the last 6 years clearly showed. Somehow, we've found our way through 4 different starting lineups over the first half of the season and have posted a 5-1 record with an astounding 115 runs scored and 3 mercy rule wins.

Although this was obvioulsy an away game for Shattered Dreams, the veteran ensamble was not phased by the vocal & animated crowd (I believe at one point the woman heckling us from behind, yelled out "Internet...Jankees.....Helicopter!"...Even the usually chatty Jerry Miller was baffled and had no response)

Dios mio! Did the opposition party too hard this weekend w/Ricky Martin on 5th Avenue or were they just badly overmatched? From the opening inning, it was clear that Shattered Dreams came to play. In the top of the first, Jon Seltzer continued his power surge, starting the scoring withanother home run. Plainview HS's Best Looking 1994, jacked a round tripper for the fifth straight game. After the game, Craig Collins exclaimed "This guy's got it all....Loving wife, cute dog, new apartment, flourishing career, picket fence... He's living the American Dream". With a plate overflowing with hush puppies and piled high with frickles, and 18 RBI on the year - it's hard to argue with that!
In the bottom half of the opening frame, El Guapo - BP - shut the Angels down with ease, foreshadowing what was to come....

Ay Carumba! In both the second and third innings, we talleyed 5 runs and the Angels began to fall apart like a badly wrapped burrito. Always a sparkplug, Craig "Speedy Gonzalez" Collins stirred up some controversy and the team, with aggressive base running. The bottom half of the lineup proceeded to shine, as they would for the rest of the game. Batters 6-10 combined for a gaudy OBP of 1.000 and reached base 20 times, scoring 19 runs. That's just downright silly!
Jerry, Robbie, Jeff, Perles and Duff raised their game to another level and pounded the opposition into submission. The numbers tell the story
- 3 walks for Jerry (looks like I am eating double meatloaf sometime in August)
- 4 RBIs for Robbie with a swing sweeter than maple butter
- 3 hits for Duff, who came back from Mexico looking like Vinny Castilla
and of course - BP "helping his own cause" with 3 more line drive hits

By the end of the 4th inning, the Angels had trotted out 3 different pitchers and were flatter than a tortilla. The game got so bad for the Angels' pitching staff, that El Presidente - Dennis Martinez actually walked off the field w/cigarette and metal cleats in hand, mid at bat - pitching to Perles in the 5th.

In all seriousness, this was a great game for many reasons.
- uno: no let down after smacking around the citi ballers last week
- dos: one half of the lineup picked up the other half. this is the mark of a good team. everyone has found a time to shine and pick up their teamates when they needed it. tremendous hitting by 6-10 and a big 2 out, 2RBI hit by Ian in the second.
- tres: great defense. Perles was spotting his pitches, and the team made no errors or overthrows. The top of the lineup took a backseat to the bottom offensively, but those players on the left side of the field kept their heads in it and played a solid game in the field. Rohin gets special mention for playing a great first base tonight. Flat hung in there the whole game with a sore right arm, in a gritty performance not to be overlooked

back to the game highlights....
In the 4th inning we added 6 more runs. Perles continued to dominate the opposing hitters, giving up only 3 runs on the evening. After the game Perles stated - "I am back healthy and ready to do all I can to contribute". To reinforce this and to demonstrate that his ribs and throat are back at 100%, he then proceeded to pound an inspiring 2 beers, much to the awe of our ivy league educated waitress (Karen? Kathy? Amanda? Josephine? oohhhh......SUSIE!)

So many hits, so many runs, and so many deserving of the gator....but the player of the game -  is the Shaft...Jeff Dubs. He did it all tonight, even moving to third base late in the game for an ailing Flatline. Offensively, he was Living La Vida Loca with a walk, single, triple & home run, 4 runs and 5 RBIs. The home run came in a 5 run 5th inning, effectively blowing the game open like a pinata at an 8 year old's birthday party. Coming off a grueling conference season, this game was a much needed shot in the arm for the captain....And it showed. With a grin stretching from ear to ear, Jeff  looked like a giant bobblehead rounding second base. I haven't seen him so happy since they announced Guitar Hero 3 was coming out. Well done, Jeff! Definitely Gator Worthy. With the BOL hitting like that, there is no stopping us!

Next game is in nearly 2 weeks, but we need to stay focused. If we win our next game, we will be looking at a June 27th showdown with UBS for first place. We've had letdowns in the past following both blowouts and layoffs, so we need to make sure to keep the momentum going.

5-1 and counting....
