Memorial Day is nearly upon us and what better way to head into summer 2011, than by treating ourselves to another tasty SD victory. From the get-go, it was apparent that Rita’s would melt under the pressure of a staunch offensive attack from Shattered Dreams and it would once again be a Happy Ending for the boys in blue.
Coming off of a thrilling victory 2 weeks ago, and looking forward to a grudge match against Blue Star next week, the Dreams methodically went about their business on Tuesday evening, easily disposing of their opponents against the backdrop of a sunset on the Hudson.
The offense last night was pretty vanilla, but the top of the lineup put together a solid performance as #1- 6 all got on at least twice (3x from Flat & Focker). Ed even added to his reputation as a 5 tool player as he was the first to be called off the bench as a pinch runner. He must have been feeling it as he set the tone early – running through a red light at 3B and heading home faster than BP can order a Mets helmet sundae during a mid August matinee at Shea. Lots of mud and a call of “safe” – and we were on our way. Hans did not cool off either, as he put the cherry on top of a 4 run first, with another 2 run Jim Dandy.
Missing two of our biggest sluggers, the flavor of the week was Defense. Craig Collins made 2 great catches in the outfield and the Captain showed some nice range at 2B with – wait for it….a snow cone catch over his shoulder. Hans also made a nice scoop at 1B but the play of the day might’ve been the double dip turned in by Flat. With one out and the bases loaded, Rita’s threatened, but Ed calmly turned two, for what is becoming his weekly web gem. Robbie was well positioned all night in RCF and BP – always cooler than a cup of custard on a hot summer’s day- kept Rita’s in check all game and barely broke a sweat.
After a few weeks off, Jeff’s pregame speech was intense. Who was Avi and why did he draw Jeff’s ire? Or did Rita’s have a rivalry with Fudgies back in the day? Who knows? But if he can get that fired up for Team Rita’s, I can’t wait to hear the fireworks before we take the field against those cocky a-holes from Blue Star, next week. Three wins in a row and counting. Huge game up next that could determine first place and set the tone for the remainder of the season. Bring it!
