Recap - June 20, 2011 - JD

With Will lounging in the Mediterranean like Leonardo DiCaprio and Blake Lively, I will handle recap duties (sorry for the delay, I had this ready on Friday). Unlike Will, it will be hard for me to have an over-arching theme to the recap, or write as well as he does, but I will give it a shot.

This game was too exciting that we need to tell the whole story and not just snippets...

We'll tip off the recap with the man of the day - Jeff, Flat, Ed, Mohal. A Bris (Mazel Tov) in the morning and a slicing 3 for 3, with 2 runs and a walk in the evening. It was only his 2nd walk of the season but it led to a run courtesy of a cutting single from jerry (more on this in a bit). Having probably his best season at 3rd base, jeff was great in the field, scooping up balls and making great throws. Well done all around.

ok done with that....

This was an intense game for a team that was 0-6. Maybe we underestimated them. Maybe we thought it would be a cake walk, but it certainly was not. Right from the start, we knew the game was going to be interesting during the first inning when the girl playing second base (no jokes) was involved in all 3 outs. It was actually funny seeing Collins and Hans sliding into second trying taking her out. They haven't tried this hard to take out a girl since both were frequenting Tin Lizzies (ba-dum ching). That 6-4-3 double play was pretty good even if Craig was safe at first.

Perles, who looked a little shaky in the first inning turned it around and had a few strikeouts. He kept the velocity high and the other team looked over matched, except the girl who ripped the ball every time she was up.

Collins, who has been a gold glove in the outfield, made the play of the year. There was no way I thought he was getting to that ball and then he dove, during the play - not after, to snag the ball. Huge Play and easily the defensive play of the year. The ballet-esque catch was also pretty impressive.

The other great play from the outfield was when the ball was ripped over Hans' head and he made the great throw to Jon, who then made the rocket throw to jerry, who was is great postion to tag the runner out at home plate. This is always a hard play for us but this was done to perfection. Well done!

As far as hitting, offensive highlights include Craig blasting a home run to left field and clocking in at 4 minutes to round the bases, Rohin - making his dramatic return going 2-2 with a walk and run scored, BP hiitng 3-3 helping his cause, Jerry having a bases loaded rbi single, ratham contributing with 3 rbi's and myself, after leaving a whopping 5 men on base, having a 2 rbi double in the 5th inning (thank god)....

We need to keep the momentum going tonight. It is a HUGE game!! See ya all at 6:30.... SD4L

Will, you could have the job back when you return.
