In primetime, Tuesday night, Shattered Dreams took the field for their 11th Opening Day. Under the lights, the Dreams took to the same turf that saw the end to their magical playoff run to the 2010 Championship game. In ten years, Yorkville's darlings amassed eight playoff berths, one regular season division title and three Finals appearances. While the ultimate prize has eluded them, they embark on their second decade of Division III softball and appear primed to finally take home the hardware.
The same old faces showed up on Tuesday night, but with a renewed spirit. The opponent for our veteran squad, was the New Crew - who were ironically older than the old crew we trotted out. While they were older, they lacked our experience and it showed. They also lacked our technology. While Jerry is usually our biggest cheerleader on the field, he was able to follow the gamecast live with a brewskie and give us some Thumbs Up from home. 13-1 in real-time - "Jerry Likes This"
We now have online scoring and the ability to broadcast our games to the entire Shattered Dreams nation around the world. Think about the global merchandising opportunities. Finally - what about Craig "Tumblr" Collins. I am going to start a blog, posting pictures of all of Craig's defensive gems, with Ryan Gosling's head on Collins' body. "Hey Girl, did you see me rob that guy of a double?". Not only did we get treated to the Collins Greatest Show on Turf, in the sixth inning, but CC also reached base 3 times, including a SD home run (despite my mental coaching hiccup) and 2 RBIs. You don't need to Instagram Collins, his speed last night was Vintage. Incidentally - Jeff can you find us a third base coach app?
Last but not least - if you Google "BP pitching", you'll get an article of a woman who throws batting practice for the Cleveland Indians. That said - you should get a picture of Perles on the mound, because he is the standard. With a steady job by his battery-mate Robbie, BP put in a workmanlike effort and yielded only one run while working out of a bases-loaded, 0 out jam in the second. Turning point of the game. Welcome to our league, New Crew.
