Gray Skies Again for the New Crew as Dreams Win 10-0

Last Monday was filled with uncertainty. From scrambling to field a full squad, to late day time shifts, to field changes and ominous springtime skies, things seemed chaotic until we actually took the Harlem River turf at 7:30.
A Sabbath day email from our pitching ace was the first ominous sign. It was to be a rematch of Hebrew hurlers - our very own BP vs the New Crew's Irwin. However, strep throat would keep our shining star of David from the hill last Monday evening. The marquee matchup was further muddled, as Irwin arrived late and didn't take to the mound until the middle innings. This proved troublesome for the Crew, as SD posted 3 first inning runs, capped by a home run from our pitching hero (he finished with a nice line of 3 for 4, r, 2RBI). Shattered Dreams has a long history of tapping the minority pitching market (who could forget Buji-nsanity that swept Yorkville in 2002?) and it continued last week. Say Hei to the backend of our 1-2 pitching punch - Ed Isaac.
Jeff looked like the '86 version of Oil Can Boyd. Exciting to watch, amped up and on his game. Someone check under his cap for a white substances (I think it's actually bleu cheese in this case, but well deserved, nonetheless). I don't have access to New Crew's iphone app, but I believe Jeff had pinpoint control, only walking 2. If this was 2005, you'd be doing an extra funnel, young man. Great stuff.
In softball, a shutout takes a whole team and with our Jenny Finch on the mend, we turned to SD's version of Kat Osterman and our makeshift D rallied - focused and on point all night along. Dare I say - ZERO ERRORS! Diving plays by Hans at first, huge double play by Seltz, sparkling play at the hot corner by Lenny and perfection across the outfield. Lots of guys LOB for our opponents and, while the game was close until the 5th inning, all of those stranded ducks became daggers in the hearts of the Crew.
While we held a 3 run lead for most of the game, it wasn't until the fifth frame that we took control. Duff continued his hot streak and love affair with the Harlem River turf. From the #2 hole in the lineup, he blasted a bases loaded clearing double to break this game open. River also filled in admirably in LCF, but couldn't take Collins place completely. The Dom Irrera look-alike ump who is Matthew McConaughey to Craig's Lance Armstrong, certainly missed his favorite Dream. Jerry and I both tried to chat him up, but you could tell that Blue was longing for some banter with #20.
Anyway - more nice numbers from the offense: Seltz had two hits and two runs while Hans had two sac RBIs. Jerry celebrated his Opening Day by making a bid to steal the team walk's lead as he trotted to first twice, to go along with a single and two runs. Lenny, Fitzy and Robbie all notched hits as well, and Captain Dubs put down Bejewled Blitz and picked up two hits and two runs to a rousing ovation from the dugout. Well done! Good things are coming from this team - can you feel it?
We're not yet on all cylinders but it's starting to percolate..
Looking forward to seeing BP, CC, Cliebo and Ro back in SD blue
