It's been a while since we've had a momentous happy recap, but if not now....when? I have been answering emails and reading reports, but all I can think about is SD ...I am writing this in between meetings, at work, and without the scorebook - but I've replayed Tuesday's game so many times in my head that the mental highlight reel should suffice
It was a marquee pitching matchup of BP vs Chung and everyone knew this would be a tight game between long-time division rivals. We came out with a ton of enthusiasm and energy and it proved to be a huge advantage, lifting us throughout the early innings. The game started with a scoreless frame on both sides but the tide took a subtle turn in the second inning as Hans beat out an infield hit. After Lenny battled back from 2 strikes to draw a walk, the BOL struck. "Hurts with two" is not a cliche. Both Jeff and I plated two apiece and Collins followed with a stroke of his own. An inning and a half in the books, and we'd taken the lead that we'd never relinquish. More runs would follow in the third frame. 9-0 Dreams.

Ev'rybody have fun tonight
A celebration so spread the word....
Ev'rybody have fun tonight
Ev'rybody Wang Chung tonight
Not so fast....City Ballers fought back valiantly and by the end of the fifth the score was 10-8. But unlike catastrophes years past, we bent but DID NOT break. After Seltz's hard slide (and subsequent knee injury) to break up a DP, we even had to shift our Defense. No matter - in his first inning in RF, JD made a put out without missing a beat. Great job by Lenny stepping in at SS and excellent play in the field by Flat and Hans throughout the game.
With timely hits by Duff and Robbie and some good range in the field by both CC and Seltz- everyone contributed. BP - once again a gutty performance with some key ABs and keeping it together on the mound during a potential disaster. The sixth inning proved to be another key spot for Lenny as he laced a 2 out RBI to give us some breathing room, followed by a seeing eye bloop by Robbie and misplay by Chung. That seemed to turn the momentum back to the Dreams and after a controversial out at first to start the final frame, the game would finally end, 12-8.
Relief. Exhaustion. Excitement.
...And a trip to our 4th Championship Game and third in the past 4 years.
Natural BodyInc Vitamin may have taken first place in the regular season with 11 wins. They have that on us. But what they don't have is 11 seasons of riding the highs and lows with the same men in SD uniforms. And they certainly don't have 11 players at the field tonight that can match our energy, our intensity and the sheer desire to end the 11th chapter for this storybook franchise in the only way possible.
We've played 11 years for this night. Leave it all on the field.
