oh my my

by Jeff D

The hearts were pounding.... The stress was high...... The emotion, as always, was intense.... Would we rebound from last week's devestating defeat??? Would our OWN dreams be shattered once again??? Would we play the way we all know we are capable of?? and more importantly, WOULD I BE DRINKING A FUNNEL????

The questions were all answered in one memorable cool night in HARLEM USA....  With the video camera rolling and people elevating their games, Shattered Dreams put on a performance that would impress the world over. The Dreams rallied in the bottoim of the 7th inning to get an amazing emotional victory over the Frozen Ropes. Surprisingly enough, it was almost exactly a year ago, against the same team, where Shattered Dreams entire season was turned around in a night that was dubbed, "the miracle on 207th".. Before getting into last nights storied events, lets have a quick flashback and all reminicse..

"The miracle on 207th street took place last night with
more drama than who will show up for will's 27th BCC
birthday party. SHATTERED DREAMS captured the
attention and hearts of people worldwide with seven
innings of breath taking softball. There are so many
words that describe the events of last night:
excitement, nervousness, passion, heart, emotion,
energy, skill, happiness and FILTHY (brother
jimmy's)... if the night doesn't end filthy, then I
don't want wake up in the morning." ----------------written thursday july 25, 2002

ON TO THE PRESENT..... WHAT A GAME!!!!...WOOOOO!!!!! The dreams took an early 1-0 nothing lead but after that, the leads kept going back and forth. Never letting our emotions get the better of us, we hung tight and played a near perfect game. We put the bat on the balls with runners on base and we fielded cleanly the balls that were hit to us. Everybody had a play in the field to help the team get out of jams. "we all really wanted to play a clean game. I am just glad I was able to contribute in such a great game" spoke outfielder Rawdog. Jerry rebounded from a emotional game last week to add a motivational spark with his fielding and hitting.

Going into the bottom of the 6th inning, down by 1 run, the middle of the lineup really stepped up the offense. 2 base hits and a clutch Sacrifice fly by Robbie Hansen tied the game up. "In that spot, I needed to move the runner home. I just need to move the runner home there. Plus, my fiance is videotaping me so I didn't want to let her down." Hansen, you didn't let her down nor did you let your fellow teamated down either. With the game being tied and runners in scoring position. Buji came up and had a tremendous hit to give us at the time the go-ahead run. We would not hold the one run lead for long though...

The top of the 7th inning came with only 3 out to make for the victory. The first batter stepped up and crushed a pitch to opposite field for timely homerun that tied the game. Deflating the emotion of the team somewhat, we kept our composure and made the next 3 outs to bring up the bottom of the 7th.... The tale that is too follow is one of glorious stature.

Craig led off the inning with a hard hit single... Flat came to bat and hit into a fielders choice. Then the cleanup batter who has been on a tear of late, jon seltzer stepped up to the plate. A blast throught the shortstop and the thirdbaseman... Runner on first and second, MY Right Centfielder.... MY "i hit game winning hits"....... MY "Mr. Gameball".... MY Craig Collins came up to bat. Already going 3 for 3 in the night, he was feeling the momentum. A blast right the shortstop. The ball was hit with such fierce that he never had chance to put his glove on it cleanly.. It goes through him.. Flatline already in motion is getting the green light to go home... Throwing the ON switch to his jet boosters,   Flat motored his way to touch home plate for the game winning run.. THE DREAMS WIN!!!!  Madness ensues at homeplate as SHATTERED DREAMS wins a remarkable game in the bottom of the 7th inning to go to 5 and 3... What a night...
Everybody played great but I have to give some special accolades to the pitcher who kept us in there the entire game. Down in counts 3-0, he battled back to get the outs. Bases loaded jams, he pitched with confidence knowing the defensvie squad behind would get him out of it. Getting a key hit and pitching a gem, hats off to Buji....

Collins, Flat, Craig, Seltzer and the rest of the team..... Excellent batting and clutch hits...

Winning has always meant alot to this team. Most of the time, it dictates most moods for the days after it. The victory last night was tremendous. I feel much better today than I did this time last week. MY MY MY..... OUR OUR OUR Kathy, Anna, Mya, Funnel and OUR Jessica..... To see all of the above is worthy enough to play our hearts out.... It is a good day for Shattered Dreams.... WOOOOO!!!!!!!!
