Turn Back the Clock

Fellow Members of Shattered Dreams,

 

Every day I read the The Post and Daily News and they talk about the Mets Success this year and it is the 20th anniversary of them winning the championship in 1986. During the games, Keith Hernandez brings it up 1986 at least 5 times a game. The reason I bring this up is that last night was reminicent of a few years ago. Before, during and after the game.....  This is the 5th anniversary of Shattered Dreams and What a way to kick it off!!!!

 

From the start, we didn't like the look of the opponent. I might try to do that with all of our opponents this year. I knew his looks would bother perles and he would add some extra speed to his pitches. Indeed it did.....

 

The team came out with some opening day jitters and we quickly gave up 5 runs... Could be the start of a devestating game, season, night, summer.... I know for a quick second i thought this might be rough. BUT, we kept our heads up and went to bat in the bottom of the first. Usually a first inning hit isn't that important but Jon's first inning HR was monstrous. It got our momentum and heads up and right back in there. It was huge. After that, we started adding runs and playing solid defense. It looked almost like we were in mid-season form. Now we definately need to practice some things but we did what we had to do and had fun doing it. Every inning we connected with the MANIAC (well done CC, let's start the contribution pool) and by the 5th inning, mercy rule was in our sight. 20-8 and the game was over.. RBI's all over the score book, Runs Scored all over the Score book...  Some key plays:

 

Obvioulsy, we have to start with Jon, the gator recipient - 4 for 4, all mult-base shots.. The HR as discussed was huge but every at bat seemed like he was locked in on the ball. Could have had the illustrious Cycle but opted to get in scoring position rather than his own records.. A true SD'er....Great job. And, playing SS for the first time. All around great game..

 

Craig Collins - Moving back to the outfield was a smooth transition back. Hitting well in the 5th spot.... Also, great game..

 

Brian Perles... Not even going to mention the pitching (1K) but the HR... wow... as talked about last night, it looked like vince coleman, ricky henderson and willy mcghee running the bases... Great shot and great game.. Also hit the winning RBI to end the game..

 

Everyone else contributed.. Robbie Hanson, Will, Duff, Jerry, Ian and Flat...

 

Brother Jimmy's - I included Craig and Buji on this email because it was almost vintage brother jimmy's last night. I didn't mind too much that we got asked to be quiet... I think we almost got louder after that... There was talk of vintage Shattered Dreams.. Trivia questions going around.. Who was the first batter in SHattered Dreams History???? Buji was the first batter in Shattered Dreams History.. Good question.... Shots of Turkey, Pulled Pork and Pitchers of beer flowing.. Plus, there was mention that the funnel is coming back.... 10 guys played, 10 guys drank beer.... Good night... So thats all for the first game.. It is good to be back, it is good to win and it is good to be hung over after a shattered dreams game...
